Brian Hamilton, Director of Bands, 938-4613

Brian Hamilton is the Director of Bands at Long Beach City College, which includes responsibility for the Wind Ensemble, Viking Show Band, Beach City Band, and assistant conducting the LBCC Chamber Orchestra, the Long Beach Community Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles. He studied trombone with Noreen Harris and Bill Booth at UCLA, and performed under the direction of Dr. Gary Thomas Scott and Roger Johnson at LBCC. He transferred to UCLA where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Music with a specialization in music education. He continued his studies at UCLA with Dr. Thomas Lee, receiving his Master of Music degree in conducting. Mr. Hamilton was the Assistant Music Director at John Adams Middle School, teaching assistant of the UCLA Marching Band, Conductor of the UCLA Symphonic Band, Assistant Director of UCLA's production of “Babes in Arms,” violin teacher at Warner Elementary School, and Brass teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School. Since his position at LBCC Mr. Hamilton has been a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator for various schools and festivals throughout Southern California . Mr. Hamilton has also been active in music associations. As a member of Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association he held the position as V.P. of Medals & Awards.

Marshall Fulbright III, Director of Orchestras, 938-4313
Marshall T. Fulbright III is the fourth Music Director/Conductor of the Long Beach Community College Orchestra and is in his first year as the Director of Orchestral Studies at Long Beach City College. His responsibilities include conducting the Long Beach Community College Orchestra, the LBCC Chamber Orchestra, and teaching Music Appreciation courses. He is a product of the Pasadena (CA) Unified School District graduating from John Muir High School. Upon graduation, he attended Chapman University in Orange (CA) earning a Bachelors of Music Degree in both Instrumental Music Education and Instrumental Conducting. Mr. Fulbright's musical path eventually led him to pursue graduate studies at the University of California in Santa Barbara (CA) where he earned a Masters of Music in Orchestral Conducting.
Mr. Fulbright has participated in prestigious conductor workshops and has studied with some of the most prominent conducting pedagogues in the country. He has attended the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen, the Conductor Institute of South Carolina and various other workshops sponsored by the Conductor's Guild, the Association of California Symphony Orchestras and the American Symphony Orchestra League. Mr. Fulbright has studied with conducting pedagogues such as David Zinman, Daniel Lewis, Gustav Meier, Jorma Panula, Thomas Wilkins, Harold Farberman, Jorge Mester, JoAnn Falletta, Leslie Dunner, Michael Morgan, and Donald Portnoy. He recently completed a teaching position at Evergreen Valley College (San Jose, CA) and prior to that he was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Colby College (Waterville, ME) where he conducted the orchestra, taught a music fundamentals course, and a music cultures/ survey course on Latin American Music. Mr. Fulbright is excited to be the newest member of the LBCC music faculty and is eagerly looking forward to further develop an already established and successful orchestral program.

Dr. Peter Knapp, Theory and History, Dpt. Chair, 938-4838
Peter Knapp completed his Bachelor's in Music in Education in 1992 from Elmhurst College. In 1996, he finished his first Master's degree in Music Theory at Ohio State University with a study on absolute pitch. Two years later, he completed his Master's in Music Composition with a dramatic setting of Mark Twain's "The War Prayer." In 2001, he completed his Ph.D. in Music Theory at OSU, a translation and commentary on the treatise, "Brevissima Theoriae Musicae," by Johann Fricker and Friedrich Oetinger, 1753. His special interests include music psychology, history of theory, computer assisted instruction, and pedagogy. While at LBCC, Dr. Knapp has been instrumental in curriculum development, program planning, and hiring priorities for the Academic Program. |

Timothy Durkovic,
Director of Piano Studies, 938-4548

Timothy Durkovic holds degrees from the National Conservatory of Guatemala and from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music where he was honored with both the Keyboard Ensemble Award and the prestigious Outstanding Master's Graduate. Mr. Durkovic has served on the faculties of the Orange County High School for the Arts, the University of La Verne and was recently appointed as Director of Keyboard Activities at Long Beach City College. Mr. Durkovic performs in recital and as soloist with orchestra in the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America and has made guest appearances at several music festivals both nationally and internationally. Skye Angulo, Director of Choral Studies, Voice, 938-4495

Skye Angulo was born and raised in Southern California. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Chapman University and her Master of Music degree in Vocal Arts from the University of Southern California. Over the past 7 years, she has been the choir director for over 9 different choirs performing major works with orchestra including Faurè's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Bach's Christmas Cantata Vivaldi's Gloria and Haydn's Te Deum. Skye has studied and worked with conductors Dr. William Hall, David Wilson and Dr. Sheridan Ball and composer Dr. Morten Lauridsen. Along with having a private voice studio at home in Hacienda Heights, Skye was a voice and music professor at Cypress College from 1999 to 2005. She has performed recitals and concerts throughout Orange County and Los Angeles and is a featured soloist for the Cypress Masterworks Chorale. During past Christmas Seasons, Skye has been the soprano lead for the Disneyland Carolers. You may have also seen her in several musicals throughout the area including Musical Theater West's production of Kiss Me, Kate in 2004. Skye directs four choirs on campus – the Viking and Southland Chorales, Madrigal Choir and Caroling Choir. Her choirs perform on and off campus year round, attending conferences and touring the states. She is also an Applied Voice instructor here at LBCC. Skye is an active member of MACCC (Music Association of California Community Colleges) and ACDA (American Choral Directors Association). She is thrilled to be a part of the Long Beach City College faculty and is very enthusiastic about the growth of the choral department!
